What brush should you use for powder blush?

A medium-sized, soft, fluffy brush is a reliable choice for powder blush. Look for a rounded or slightly angled shape that picks up color without packing it on too heavily. The flexible bristles help distribute blush in a sheer layer, so you can build the color gradually and blend away harsh edges.

Choose a shape that suits your application

A rounded brush works well for soft, diffused color across the apples of the cheeks. An angled blush brush can make placement more precise and follow the cheekbones when you sweep color upward. Either shape can work; comfort and control matter more than choosing one specific style. Avoid a very small, stiff brush for all-over application, since it may leave concentrated spots that are harder to blend.

Consider the bristles and brush density

Both synthetic and natural bristles can apply powder blush effectively. Prioritize soft bristles that feel comfortable on your skin and don’t shed easily. A brush with a little give is generally easier to use than one that is very dense: dense bristles can pick up a lot of pigment at once, especially from highly pigmented blushes. If you prefer a stronger color payoff, you can still use a fluffier brush and add another light layer.

Apply blush in light layers

Dip just the tips of the brush into the powder, then tap off the excess before touching your face. Start with a small amount on the cheeks and blend with gentle, sweeping or circular motions. Add more only if needed. For a softer finish, use the clean side of the brush or a separate clean fluffy brush to blend the edges. Washing your brush regularly also helps remove old makeup and keeps color from transferring unevenly.
